David Muigia Dead, Gabriel Lopez Arrested after DUI Accident on New Idria Road [San Benito County, CA]
39-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after UTV Crash near Mile Pose 107 13.31
SAN BENITO COUNTY, CA (November 21, 2024) – Sunday, David Muigia died and Gabriel Lopez was arrested after a DUI crash on New Idria Road.
California Highway Patrol officers responded to the northbound lanes of New Idria Road around 6:00 p.m., just south of of milepost marker 107 13.31.
According to reports, the driver of a 2024 Can-Am Maverick UTV lost control while negotiating a turn. Consequently, the UTV veered off the roadway before going airborne and landing in a large drainage ditch.
First responders declared one of the passengers from the vehicle dead at the scene. Authorities later identified the deceased victim as 39-year-old Muigia, of Fresno.
Meanwhile, the UTV driver, identified as 27-year-old Lopez, and two other passengers were hospitalized with unspecified injuries. Police later arrested and booked Lopez into the San Benito County Jail for suspected DUI.
