32-Year-Old Man Dies in Head-On Accident near Neponset Road

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA (November 20, 2024) – Monday afternoon, Matthew Giles was pronounced dead after a head-on accident on Monte Road.

Authorities received dispatch calls around 2:00 p.m., just north of Neponset Road on November 4th.

Reports indicate that Giles was driving a red pickup-truck when he veered into oncoming lanes and collided head-on with a white International pickup-truck.

The impact pushed the red pickup-truck into the guardrail and off the bridge into the Salinas River where it landed on its roof.

Medics arrived and pronounced 32-year-old Giles deceased at the scene.

Meanwhile, troopers blocked all lanes while they cleared the scene and conducted further investigation.
