19-Year-Old Shelby Woman Pronounced Dead after Two-Vehicle Collision near Aguajito Road

MONTEREY, CA (November 20, 2024) – Sunday morning, Maddie Elizabeth Fletcher was killed in a hit-and-run collision along Highway 1.

Authorities arrived to the scene around 9:48 p.m., on the northbound lanes of the freeway near Aguajito Road.

California Highway Patrol officers say a silver Nissan struck a black Honda, causing the Honda to lose control. The Honda then struck a nearby tree before coming to a stop.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Nissan fled the scene without rendering aid or contacting authorities. 

Responding medical personnel declared the Honda driver dead at the scene. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office later identified the deceased driver as 19-year-old Maddie Elizabeth Fletcher of Shelby.

Monterey Officials are asking those who witnessed the Highway 1 hit-and-run to contact the CHP Monterey Area office as soon as possible.
