54-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Hit-and-Run Collision near University Drive

MESA, AZ (November 20, 2024) – Saturday evening, Jose Luis Garcia was fatally struck in a hit-and-run pedestrian crash on Stapley Drive.

The incident occurred around 6:00 p.m., near University Drive on November 9th.

Authorities say Garcia was exiting a private drive when an item fell from the truck. The driver then got out of the vehicle to recover the item from the road.

There, an older model silver passenger truck struck Garcia, causing serious injuries.

Upon impact, the driver of the truck failed to render aid or remain at the scene. Reports indicate that the suspect fled northbound on Stapley Drive.

Despite life-saving efforts, medical personnel later pronounced 54-year-old Garcia dead at the scene.

At this time, no information about the suspect is available, and the Mesa Police Department urges witnesses to call them at 480-644-2211.
