Man Fatally Struck in Pedestrian Collision on Highway 50 [Sacramento, CA]
Man Pronounced Dead after Pedestrian vs Auto Accident near 16th Street
SACRAMENTO, CA (November 18, 2024) – Wednesday morning, one man was fatally struck in a pedestrian collision on Highway 50.
Authorities responded to the scene around 5:20 a.m., on the westbound lanes of the freeway just east of 16th Street.
California Highway Patrol officers say the driver of a Lexus SUV struck a man who was walking in the middle lanes.
The Lexus driver and several other motorists pulled over to render assistance to the victim.
Despite life-saving efforts, the Sacramento Fire Department pronounced the male pedestrian dead at the scene. Although, police officers have not yet released his name or place of residency.
Police said the driver remained on site and cooperated with authorities. Investigators do not suspect drugs or alcohol to be a factor in the collision.
In the end, the CHP closed all the westbound lanes of the freeway for investigation. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased victim once available.
An active investigation into the fatal pedestrian collision on Highway 50 is still currently underway.
