Two Men Pronounced Dead after Rollover Collision near East Pacheco Road

BAKERSFIELD, CA (November 12, 2024) – Tuesday night, a solo-car crash on Cottonwood Road killed Saul Gonzalez and Julio Alfonso Jr.

The incident occurred around 5:03 p.m., near East Pacheco Road.

Based on a witness statement, the driver of a truck was overtaking vehicles ahead using the shoulder of the freeway. Eventually, the driver lost control and veered towards the dirt field.

Upon arrival, first responders discovered a truck overturned on the dirt shoulder of the roadway.  

Medical personnel later declared one of the male occupants of the truck dead at the scene. The other man was transported to a local hospital where he eventually succumbed to his injuries. 

The coroner’s office later identified the deceased men as 42-year-old Alfonso Jr. and 41-year-old Gonzalez. 

One of the victims’ families started a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses. 

At this time, Bakersfield officials continue to investigate the Cottonwood Road solo-vehicle crash.
