2 Dead, 1 Hospitalized after Wrong-Way Accident near Buckeye Road

PHOENIX, AZ (November 11, 2024) – Thursday morning, Maria Vazquez and Dayana Aguilar were killed in a wrong-way collision on Interstate 17.

Police officers received calls around 2:00 a.m., near Buckeye Road on November 7th.

Per reports, Vazquez was driving at high rates of speed, pacing vehicles that were traveling north. As a result, she eventually collided head-on with an oncoming car.

Medics arrived and pronounced a passenger in the vehicle that was struck, 29-year-old Aguilar, dead at the scene. In addition, the driver of the vehicle that was hit suffered serious injuries.

Due to the extent of her condition, medics also pronounced 23-year-old Vazquez, of Glendale deceased.

Following the initial investigation, video evidence of her reckless driving before she collided head-on with another vehicle surfaced. The ongoing investigation will yield further details about the wrong-way crash on Interstate 17, which authorities will share as soon as they can.
