Jose Castro Arrested, 6 Children Hospitalized after Hit-and-Run DUI Crash on West Ledbetter Road [Dallas, TX]
Six Children Injured in Hit-and-Run DUI Collision near Rugged Drive
DALLAS, TX (November 11, 2024) – Saturday night, Jose Castro was arrested and six children were hurt in a DUI crash on West Ledbetter Road.
Dispatchers received calls around 10:00 p.m., near Rugged Drive on September 28th.
Per reports, Castro was driving a black 2018 Chevrolet Malibu at high rates of speed down Rugged Drive. He then ran a red-light at the intersection of West Ledbetter Drive and struck a 2016 GMC Arcadia.
Troopers say the female driver of the GMC was attempting to make a left turn at the 4200 block of West Ledbetter Road. The GMC passengers were described as a 26-year-old woman, a 17-year-old boy, a 4-year-old girl in the middle seat, and four children in the backseat aged 3 to 6.
Paramedics arrived and transported six children to a nearby hospital. Crews say the 4-year-old boy was suffering from serious injuries.
In addition, the driver of the Chevy attempted to flee the scene. However, authorities later located and transported 20-year-old Castro to a hospital. Authorities charged Castro with two counts of intoxication assault and two charges of collision causing serious bodily injury.
An active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway.
