Danny Vasquez Sr. Dead, Dane Powell Arrested after Motorcycle Accident on Highway 84 [Lubbock, TX]
49-Year-Old Rider Fatally Struck in DUI Motorcycle Crash near County Road 7200
LUBBOCK, TX (November 11, 2024) – Friday, Danny Adam Vasquez Sr. died and Dane Powell was arrested after a motorcycle accident on Highway 84.
Dispatchers received calls around 9:30 p.m., near County Road 7200 on September 20th.
Investigators say Powell was driving a pickup-truck east on the freeway when he rear-ended a 2016 Yamaha motorcycle, causing the rider to lose control. The impact ejected Vasquez Sr., from the motorcycle onto the road.
Medical personnel arrived and pronounced 49-year-old Vasquez Sr. dead at the scene. Meanwhile, 60-year-old Dane Lay Powell, of Snyder remained uninjured.
Emergency crews shut down the surrounding area for a brief time during clearing operations.
Following preliminary duties, authorities determined that Powell was impaired at the the time. Consequently, troopers arrested Powell and booked him into the Lubbock County Detention Center with a charge of intoxication manslaughter.
An active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway.
