20-Year-Old Driver Arrested after Fatal Road-Rage Collision near Rohnert Park
SANTA ROSA, CA (November 7, 2024) – Saturday, Carena Piccinotti died and Diego Diaz-Hernandez was arrested after a crash on Stony Point Road.
Police officers received dispatch calls around 2:00 p.m., near Rohnert Park.
Based on the initial investigation, the driver of a southbound Mazda CX-30 intentionally rammed into a Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport several times.
The impact pushed the Volkswagen into the oncoming lanes where it collided with a black Mercedes.
Responding medical personnel declared the front-seat passenger of the Volkswagen dead at the scene. Authorities later identified the deceased passenger as 33-year-old Piccinotti.
The male Volkswagen driver and Carena’s 3-year-old son who was in the backseat, Ayden, were transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment of major injuries.
In addition, paramedics took the Mercedes occupants to a nearby hospital with significant injuries.
Meanwhile, police charged the Mazda driver – 20-year-old Diaz-Hernandez – with assault with a deadly weapon, DUI, and murder.
Santa Rosa Officials are asking those who witnessed the crash to contact the CHP-Santa Rosa at 707-588-1400.
The loved ones of the victims involved started a GoFundMe page to help with costs during this difficult time.
