23-Year-Old Woman Pronounced Dead after Rear-End Crash near Apache Trail
BANNING, CA (November 6, 2024) – Thursday evening, a DUI accident on Seminole Drive claimed the life of Carlie Whitlatch.
Police officers attempted to pull over a suspected drunk driver around 9:30 p.m., near Apache Trail.
However, the driver of the Ford Mustang convertible failed to comply with authorities and fled at a high rate of speed. The Mustang then collided with the back of a Nissan Versa that was stopped at a stop sign.
The impact of the collision sent the Nissan and the Ford in a westerly direction, and into a nearby business resulting in a fire.
Responding firefighters declared the Nissan driver, identified as 23-year-old Whitlatch, dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, the Mustang driver – identified as 48-year-old Jason McQueary – was hospitalized for minor injuries.
Police arrested McQueary for gross vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI. Although, reports indicate that he was able to post bail the following day. McQueary is set to appear in court on January 2nd. Once available, further details will be provided.
The family of Whitlatch started a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses.
