42-Year-Old Scooter Rider Dies in Gas-Powered Scooter Collision near Cheryl Drive
PHOENIX, AZ (November 4, 2024) – Early Wednesday morning, a scooter vs. vehicle collision on Cave Creek Road claimed the life of Gary Helton.
Dispatchers received calls around 1:30 a.m., near Cheryl Drive on October 16th.
Following preliminary duties, police officers determined that Helton was operating a gas-powered scooter in the area. For reasons under investigation, Helton eventually collided head-on with another vehicle.
Upon arrival, first responders located 42-year-old Helton lying on the ground with critical injuries. Due to the extent of his condition, medics pronounced Helton deceased at the scene.
Meanwhile, the involved driver remained at the scene. Authorities later determined that impairment played a factor in the crash.
Crews eventually released the driver, and charges against him are currently pending.
At this time, an active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway.
