Monique Maes Fatally Struck in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Collision on Paseo de Nopal [Santa Fe, NM]
43-Year-Old Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident near Estrada Calabasa
SANTA FE, NM (October 30, 2024) – Tuesday night, Monique Maes was fatally struck in a hit-and-run pedestrian collision on Paseo de Nopal.
The incident occurred around 6:10 p.m., near Estrada Calabasa on October 15th.
Investigation showed that 43-year-old Maes was walking with her two children, ages 8 and 12, when they were struck by a vehicle. Furthermore, a witness told the police that the vehicle fled the scene.
Emergency responders transported Maes and her children to Christus St. Vincent Hospital. On Wednesday, October 17th, Maes succumbed to her injuries at the hospital while her children were released.
Authorities located a white 2005 Chevy Equinox on Tuesday evening, with front-end damages near Paseo de la Tierra and Estrada Calabasa. Investigators later identified the driver as 29-year-old Mario Israel Mendez.
Mendez will be facing multiple charges, including homicide by vehicle and two counts of child abuse.
