Denise Barkus Fatally Struck in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Collision on Imperial Highway [South Los Angeles, CA]
Driver at Large after Fatal Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crash near Parmelee Avenue
SOUTH LOS ANGELES, CA (October 18, 2024) – Monday evening, Denise Barkus died in a hit-and-run pedestrian collision on Imperial Highway.
Police officers responded to the scene around 8:50 p.m., just west of Parmelee Avenue on October 7th.
According to investigators, the driver of an unidentified vehicle struck a woman who was crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk. The driver then continued to flee the scene without rendering aid to the victim.
Medical responders declared the female pedestrian dead at the scene. The Los Angeles Police Department later identified the deceased woman as 62-year-old Barkus, of Los Angeles.
At this time, the city is offering a $50,000 reward to anyone who can lead the authorities to the arrest of the suspect. Authorities described the vehicle as a two-toned silver or white sedan.
