Darius Canuto and Virgilio Cunanan Killed in 2-Vehicle Collision on Tampa Avenue [Los Angeles, CA]
Two Men Pronounced Dead after Two-Car Accident near Chatsworth Street
LOS ANGELES, CA (October 17, 2024) – Tuesday night, Virgilio Cunanan and Darius Canuto were killed in a 2-vehicle collision on Tampa Avenue.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene around 11:15 p.m., at the 10700 block of Tampa Avenue, just south of Chatsworth Street.
Based on the initial investigation, the driver of a northbound gray BMW struck a white Toyota that was attempting to turn left onto Atlanta Avenue.
The impact of the crash trapped the two occupants of the Toyota, leaving them with fatal injuries. On Thursday, the Department of Medical Examiner identified the deceased victims as Canuto, 68, and Cunanan, 56.
Meanwhile, paramedics rushed the BMW driver, described as a 20-year-old man, to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
At this time, investigators continue to investigate the cause of the crash. Los Angeles officials closed the Tampa Avenue and reopened around 4:30 a.m. the next day.
