Multiple Hospitalized, Rafael Sapien III Arrested after Wrong-Way Crash on Interstate 10 [Tolleson, AZ]
4 Injured, 21-Year-Old Man Charged after Multi-Vehicle DUI Collision near 91st Avenue
TOLLESON, AZ (October 9, 2024) – Sunday, four victims were hurt and Rafael Sapien III was arrested after a wrong-way crash on Interstate 10.
Around 8:00 a.m., police officers responded to the scene near 91st Avenue on October 6th.
Investigators say Sapien III was driving a maroon Chevrolet pickup-truck the wrong-way on the freeway. As a result, the Chevy struck a gray Dodge SUV head-on.
Paramedics arrived and transported the four occupants from inside the SUV to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Crews also took Sapien III to a local hospital.
After receiving medical care, officers arrested 21-year-old Sapien III around 12:00 p.m., on Sunday. Following his arrest, authorities booked him into the Maricopa County jail on four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated DUI.
As of now, authorities have not released any additional information, and the investigation into the wrong-way crash on Interstate 10 continues.
