19-Year-Old Driver and 22-Year-Old Firefighter Killed in Big-Rig Collision near Mile Marker 300

MARTIN COUNTY, TX (October 9, 2024) – Thursday afternoon, Jack Parks and Shelby Carroll died in a semi-truck crash on State Highway 349.

Authorities responded to the northbound lanes of the freeway near mile marker 300 on September 19th.

According to reports, 31-year-old Amador Reyes Terrazas, of Odessa was driving a 2009 Freightliner with a trailer and stopped to prepare to make a turn. There, the driver of a 2012 Jeep Wrangler rear-ended the semi-truck.

Medical personnel arrived and pronounced the Jeep driver, 19-year-old Carroll, and his passenger, 22-year-old Parks dead at the scene. Investigators say Parks was a Paducah firefighter and that both victims were students at Texas Tech.

At this time, authorities have not released additional information, and the crash remains under investigation. Once available, more details will be provided to the public.
