65-Year-Old Man Fatally Struck by Scooter near Westmoreland Avenue

KOREATOWN, CA (October 4, 2024) – Early Thursday evening, Donny Kim was killed in a hit-and-run pedestrian crash on James M Wood Boulevard.

Police officers responded to the scene around 4:45 p.m., at the 2800 block of James M Wood Boulevard near Westmorelane Avenue on September 12th.

According to troopers, 65-year-old Kim was with his wife walking along the sidewalk. As Donny stepped out, the female rider of an electric scooter struck him.

Kim fell and bumped his head into the concrete and refused to be taken to the hospital. He then began to show signs of trauma, and he was taken to a local hospital. Just a week later, Kim was declared brain-dead, and he was eventually let go.

The woman who struck Kim did not remain at the scene, and police later said that she was riding a Lime scooter and wearing a pink t-shirt.

Further investigation remains ongoing, and police say the woman will face charges once identified. Once available, further details will be provided.

Our deepest condolences and sympathies are with the family and friends of Donny Kim during this devastating time.
