50-Year-Old Victim Fatally Struck in Two-Vehicle Accident near Avenue 392 

CUTLER, CA (October 3, 2024) – Early Friday morning, Marin Apodaca was pronounced dead after a rear-end collision on Highway 63. 

First responders arrived to the scene around 6:00 a.m., near Avenue 392.

According to reports, the driver of a southbound vehicle rear-ended a truck that was attempting to make a left turn.

Shortly after, the driver of another vehicle stopped to exit their vehicle and help clear debris.

However, the driver of a passing 2016 Toyota sedan struck the man, leaving him with life-threatening injuries. Medical personnel arrived and pronounced the male victim dead at the scene. Family members later identified the deceased pedestrian as 50-year-old Apodaca, of Cutler.

Investigators say the Toyota driver failed to see the man on the roadway. Police said the driver who had struck the victim remained at the scene and provided CPR on the pedestrian. 

Meanwhile, one other driver from the initial collision was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries. 

In the end, California Highway Patrol officers closed Highway 63, between Avenue 388 and Road 128 until 8:00 a.m. for further investigation. 

The family of Apodaca also started a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses during this difficult time.
