72-Year-Old Man Dies after Colliding with Tractor Trailer near Farm-to-Market Road 2053

LYNN COUNTY, TX (October 2, 2024) – Friday morning, Leonel Salazar died and Javier Lucio was involved in a semi-truck crash on US Highway 87.

The Texas Department of Public Safety arrived to the scene around 9:15 a.m., near Farm-to-Market Road 2053 on August 23rd.

Investigators say Salazar was driving a 1997 Buick Century, and was stopped facing westbound FM 2053.

Meanwhile, Lucio was driving a 2015 Mack truck tractor northeast on the freeway, approaching FM 2053. As Salazar entered the intersection, Lucio swerved in attempt to avoid a crash. However, Lucio was unable to do so in time and the two vehicles collided.

Despite life-saving efforts, medics pronounced 72-year-old Salazar, of O’Donnell, Texas, dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, 63-year-old Lucio remained uninjured. Following preliminary duties, police officers say both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time.

At this time, an active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway.
