23-Year-Old Woman Dies in Pedestrian Collision near Camino Vida Roble
CARLSBAD, CA (October 2, 2024) – Tuesday, Karla Guillen died and Jose Manuel Zambrano Cruz was arrested after a crash on Las Palmas Drive.
Around 12:37 a.m., police officers responded to the 2200 block of Las Palmas Drive near Camino Vida Roble.
Authorities say the driver of an eastbound Volkswagen Jetta was traveling at high rates of speed and crashed into three other vehicles. In addition, the Jetta struck a woman who had just exited her vehicle.
Afterwards, the driver of the Volkswagen fled the scene without rendering aid to the victims or contacting police.
Medical personnel arrived and pronounced the female pedestrian, 23-year-old Guillen, dead at the scene.
Following preliminary duties, authorities managed to locate and arrest the hit-and-run driver, 26-year-old Cruz, of Carlsbad. Officials booked Cruz into the Vista Detention Facility for suspected felony DUI, hit-and-run, and vehicular manslaughter.
