72-Year-Old Glendale Man Dies in Three-Vehicle Crash near North Citrus Street

WEST COVINA, CA (October 2, 2024) – Saturday, Jose Lopez Centeno was killed and his passenger was hurt in a multi-vehicle crash on 10 Freeway. 

The incident occurred around 4:00 a.m., on the eastbound lanes of the freeway just west of North Citrus Street.

California Highway Patrol officers say the driver of a 2011 Toyota Camry rear-ended a 2012 Honda Civic in the fast lane.

The impact then pushed the Civic into the far right lane where it hit a 2023 Kenworth big-rig. Shortly after, a 19-year-old Montclair woman struck the disabled Civic in the fast lane.

Responding medical personnel declared the Civic driver dead at the scene. The Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased driver as 64-year-old Centeno, of Carson. 

Meanwhile, paramedics took the female passenger inside the Mazda to a nearby hospital for further treatment of moderate injuries. 

The 20-year-old Pomona man driving the Camry and the 64-year-old Carson man driving the big-rig remained unharmed. 

West Covina Officials continue to investigate the reason behind the fatal traffic collision.
