79-Year-Old Santa Maria Woman Pronounced Dead after Two-Vehicle Collision near East Foster Road
ORCUTT, CA (October 1, 2024) – Monday morning, Sharlene Marie Plunkett died and Jordan Gutierrez was hurt in a head-on crash on Highway 135.
Authorities responded to the scene shortly before noon near East Foster Road.
California Highway Patrol officers say the driver of a 2020 Nissan veered into oncoming lanes and collided head-on with a southbound Honda sedan.
Responding paramedics rushed both drivers to Marian Regional Medical Center.
Despite life-saving efforts, medical personnel pronounced the Honda deceased. She was later identified by the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Bureau as 79-year-old Sharlene Marie Plunkett.
Meanwhile, the Nissan driver – identified as 26-year-old Jordan Gutierrez – remained at the hospital for serious injuries. Both drivers were Santa Maria residents.
In the end, the CHP momentarily closed a portion of Highway 135 as crews cleared the scene.
