Andrew Castellanos Dies in Two-Vehicle Crash on Varner Road [Palm Desert, CA]
18-Year-Old Cathedral City Man Killed in Sedan vs Pickup-Truck Collision near 38th Avenue
PALM DESERT, CA (October 1, 2024) – Tuesday morning, a two-vehicle crash on Varner Road took the life of Andrew Castellanos.
Police officers responded to the scene around 7:58 p.m., just east of 38th Avenue.
Investigators say the driver of an eastbound white Lexus sedan veered into the right dirt shoulder and lost control.
The driver then overcorrected and drove directly into the path of a westbound white Ford pickup-truck, resulting in a collision.
First responders declared the Lexus driver dead at the scene. He was later identified as 18-year-old Castellanos, of Cathedral City.
Meanwhile, the two men occupying the Ford pickup-truck complained about pain after the collision.
California Highway Patrol officers closed both lanes of Varner Road between 38th Avenue and Leopard Street for investigation.
Authorities are asking those who witnessed the fatal two-vehicle crash to contact CHP Officer Perez at 760-772-5300.
