29-Year-Old Man Fatally Struck in Two-Vehicle Collision near Camelback Road
PHOENIX, AZ (September 25, 2024) – Dillon Mares was killed Saturday, and Travis Smith was arrested after a hit-and-run crash on 16th Street.
Officers responded to the scene around 12:30 a.m., to the intersection of 16th Street and Camelback Road on September 21st.
Reports indicate that 24-year-old Travis Smith sped south on 16th Street, ran a red light at Camelback Road, and struck the vehicle driven by 29-year-old Dillon Mares.
Despite life-saving efforts, medics pronounced Mares dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, Smith fled the scene but later turned himself in. He now faces several charges, including manslaughter and leaving the scene of a collision resulting in death or serious injury.
Investigators are actively looking into the crash and will make further details available once they have more information.
