12 Firefighters Injured in Rollover Crash on State Route 241 [Irvine, CA]
Several Hospitalized after Single-Vehicle Collision near Tomato Springs Road
IRVINE, CA (September 25, 2024) – Early Thursday night, a rollover crash on State Route 241 sent at least twelve firefighters to a hospital.
The collision happened around 6:54 p.m., near Tomato Springs Road in Irvine.
California Highway Patrol officers says a vehicle in front of the fire-truck swerved to avoid a ladder that was on the road.
The driver of a hand-crew fire truck also swerved and hit a guardrail and overturned onto several lanes of the SR-241.
Responding emergency personnel transported six of the firefighters to trauma centers, where they remained in stable to critical condition.
Two other firefighters were transported to Hoag Hospital. Two other fighters remained at Mission Hospital, and two others are at Orange County Global Medical Center.
Based on the news report, the firefighters were returning from battling the Airport Fire before the collision happened.
At this time, the California Highway Patrol is leading the investigation regarding the rollover crash. The Orange County Professional Firefighters Association started a GoFundMe page to help raise money for the injured firefighters.
