42-Year-Old Man Killed, 22-Year-Old Man Arrested after Speeding Motorcycle Collision near 39th Avenue
PHOENIX, AZ (September 24, 2024) – Sunday, Craig Cooper was killed and Andrew Perez was arrested after a DUI speeding crash on Interstate 10.
The incident happened around 1:30 a.m., near 39th Avenue on September 22nd.
Per reports, 22-year-old Perez was driving a white Toyota Camry at high rates of speed, hitting 140 miles per hour.
The Toyota then struck a motorcycle rider, identified as 42-year-old Cooper. Upon impact, Perez continued traveling before his vehicle ignited in flames.
Paramedics arrived and transported 42-year-old Cooper to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Following preliminary duties, police officers arrested Perez and booked him the Maricopa County Jail on a second-degree murder charge. Court records show that his blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels were .141 and .145 during the breath test. He is currently held on a cash-only bond of $250,000.
The situation is still developing, and officials will release more information about the DUI speeding crash on Interstate 10 once their investigation yields results.
