2 Riders Killed in Motorcycle Collision on 5 Freeway [Irvine, CA]
Two Pronounced Dead after Motorcycle Accident near Culver Drive
IRVINE, CA (September 23, 2024) – Early Sunday morning, two riders were killed in a motorcycle collision on 5 Freeway.
California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene around 12:15 a.m., on the northbound lanes of the freeway just south of Culver Drive.
At this time, investigators are working to determine the reason behind the incident. However, authorities revealed that two motorcyclists collided with each other in the northbound lanes.
Officials also reported approximately 50 motorcyclists at the site of the crash. Additionally, a separate driver rear-ended a CHP patrol vehicle after the deputies arrived at the scene.
First responders declared the two riders dead at the scene. However, their identities remain undisclosed to the public.
In the end, the CHP issued a SigAlert in all the northbound lanes of I-5 that lasted until 4:00 a.m. Irvine Officials and the CHP are working to determine if DUI contributed to the 5 Freeway dual-motorcycle crash.
