Nancy Arzate Dead, Mason Michael Joachim Arrested after DUI Crash on Interstate 15 [Temecula, CA]
33-Year-Old Perris Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run Collision near Temecula Parkway
TEMECULA, CA (September 18, 2024) – Saturday evening, Nancy Arzate was killed and Mason Michael Joachim was arrested after a DUI crash.
The incident occurred around 10:00 p.m., on the northbound lanes of Interstate 15 just north of Temecula Parkway.
California Highway Patrol officers say a 2011 Toyota Camry came to a stop on the right shoulder after losing control and hitting a roadside object.
The driver of the Camry then exited her vehicle and was struck by a 2003 Ford Edge traveling at around 70 mph.
Despite life-saving efforts, paramedics pronounced the Camry driver dead at the scene. The Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Bureau later identified the deceased woman as 33-year-old Nancy Arzate of Perris.
Following the crash, authorities managed to detain the driver of the Ford Edge after fleeing the scene on foot.
Officials transported the hit-and-run driver, 26-year-old Mason Michael Joachim of Carlsbad, to Inland Valley Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
Police booked Joachim into the Riverside County jail for felony DUI, hit-and-run, and several other charges. At this time, Joachim is being held in place of $1 million bail.
Authorities are asking those who witnessed the fatal DUI to contact CHP Officer J. Cox at 951-466-4300.
