Three Pronounced Dead after Single-Car Accident near Garfield Avenue

FRESNO COUNTY, CA (September 17, 2024) – Friday, Dario Urena, Syrus Suniga, and Joey Suniga Jr. died in a car crash on Kearney Boulevard.

Dispatchers received calls around 2:45 a.m., near Garfield Avenue.

California Highway Patrol officers say the driver of an eastbound Honda Civic veered left for reasons unknown. Consequently, the Civic collided with a palm tree before catching on fire, trapping the three occupants inside. 

The driver and the two passengers from inside the vehicle sustained life-threatening injuries and died at the scene. 

Officials later identified the deceased driver as 25-year-old Dario Urena. The passengers were also identified as 21-year-old Syrus Suniga and 27-year-old Joey Suniga Jr.

Based on the report, Syrus and Dario were stepbrothers, and Syrus and Joey were cousins. Crews also say all victims were from Kerman.

Following preliminary duties, authorities determined that alcohol may have contributed to the collision. At this time, an active investigation is still currently underway.
