57-Year-Old Man Dead, 42-Year-Old Driver Arrested after Hit-and-Run Collision near Ardenwood Way

LAKE ELSINORE, CA (September 13, 2024) – Thursday, Desmond Gallagher died and Mitzi Reagers was arrested after a hit-and-run crash on State Route 74.

Authorities responded to the scene at approximately 9:27 p.m., just west of Ardenwood Way on September 5th.

Per reports, Reagers was driving a 2018 Nissan Versa at about 45-50 mph on the highway. She then made an unsafe right turn and struck Gallagher, who was pushing a shopping cart in the area.

Upon impact, 42-year-old Reagers, of Lake Elsinore, fled the scene before authorities located her at a residence in Lake Elsinore. As a result, officers arrested and booked her into the Cois M. Byrd Detention Center on charges of driving under the influence, felony hit-and-run, and gross vehicular manslaughter.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced 57-year-old Gallagher dead at the scene.

California Highway Patrol officers are currently investigation the fatal DUI on State Route 74. Authorities encourage any witnesses with information about the incident to contact their offices at 951-466-4300.
