Three Students Pronounced Dead after Three-Car Accident near Penny Road

GRAYSON COUNTY, TX (September 11, 2024) – Friday, Amara Grandy, Alexander Grandy, and Alvin Grandy died in a 3-vehicle crash on Highway 69.

Police officers received dispatch calls around 7:20 p.m., on the southbound lanes of the freeway near Penny Road on August 30th.

Per reports, 40-year-old Hyrum Grandy was driving a Hyundai Elantra south with three passengers, Amara, Alexander and Alvin.

Hyrum then swerved left in attempt to avoid a collision, and struck a Ford F-150, driven by 34-year-old Angel Martinez, of Celest. The impact pushed the Hyundai into the northbound lanes where it hit a Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 29-year-old Lane Rencer.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced 13-year-old Amara, 14-year-old Alexander, and 10-year-old Alvin dead at the scene. Police say that they were students from Rains ISD.

Meanwhile, the other occupants remained uninjured.

Officials have refrained from releasing any further details about the crash to the public at this time; however, they will do so once more information is available.
