Ricardo Resendez Dead, Rigo Vivar Involved in Wrong-Way Collision on Canal Street [Houston, TX]
28-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Wrong-Way Crash near Live Oak Street
HOUSTON, TX (September 10, 2024) – Early Saturday afternoon, Ricardo Resendez was killed in a wrong-way collision on Canal Street.
Around 1:30 p.m., the Houston Police Department responded to the 2727 block of Canal Street near Live Oak Street on August 24th.
Per witness reports, deputy constable Rigo Vivar was driving a white Chevrolet recklessly in the wrong direction of the road.
Vivar then attempted to make a U-turn onto Live Oak Street and collided with another vehicle, driven by Resendez.
Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced 28-year-old Resendez dead at the scene. Investigators say he on his way home from at the time of the crash.
In addition, paramedics took Vivar to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. Harris County Precinct 6 internal affairs Lieutenant Simel Maldonado stated that Vivar was stripped from his position.
A preliminary investigation reveals that the deputy constable was on his way to work in his personal vehicle and was in uniform at the time of the accident.
As of Sunday, authorities stated that no charges were filed against Vivar. At this time, an active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway.
