49-Year-Old Wrong-Way Driver Pronounced Dead after Head-On Collision near Grossmont High School

EL CAJON, CA (September 5, 2024) – Early Sunday morning, one woman was pronounced dead after a wrong-way crash on Interstate 8.

California Highway Patrol officers responded to the westbound lanes of the freeway around 12:45 a.m., near Grossmont High School on August 25th.

Responding troopers say the female driver of a 2021 Kia K5 was heading east in the westbound lanes. As a result, the Kia collided head-on with a westbound 2013 Chevrolet Silverado.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced the 49-year-old woman driving the Kia, dead at the scene. Although, authorities have not yet released her identity.

Meanwhile, paramedics took the 34-year-old male driver of the Chevy to Sharp Memorial Hospital for further treatment of serious injuries.

Following preliminary duties, police officers suspect that intoxication played a factor.

An active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway. Once available, more details will be provided about the fatal wrong-way crash on Interstate 8.
