34-Year-Old Salinas Woman Injured in Head-On Collision near Gould Road

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA (September 3, 2024) – Monday evening, Iris Rivas and another driver were injured in a wrong-way crash on Highway 101. 

California Highway Patrol officers arrived to the northbound lanes of the freeway near Gould Road.

Upon arrival, officers learned that the driver of a southbound blue SUV intentionally entered the northbound lanes.

As a result, the SUV collided head-on with a big-rig near the Hartnell Road exit.

Emergency personnel rushed the SUV driver, identified as 34-year-old Iris Rivas, to a hospital for significant injuries. Meanwhile, the Fresno man driving the semi-truck also sustained minor injuries from the collision.  

Currently, the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case to see if Rivas will face any criminal charges.
