21-Year-Old Anderson Man Pronounced Dead after Single-Vehicle Accident near Teton Drive

REDDING, CA (August 29, 2024) – Early Sunday, Kannon Chaney died and Cristian Bennett was arrested after a DUI crash on Buenaventura Boulevard. 

First responders arrived to the scene around 12:15 a.m., near Teton Drive.

Upon arrival, the officers discovered a vehicle in the center of the roadway engulfed in flames. In addition, multiple passengers were ejected onto the roadway.

Paramedics quickly transported 21-year-old Chaney, of Anderson to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, police booked the 19-year-old driver, Bennett, into the Shasta County Jail for vehicular manslaughter and several other charges. 

The second passenger, identified as 20-year-old Hunter Alexander, was unharmed and released at the scene. 

At this time, the Redding Police Department and the Shasta County Coroner’s Office are leading the investigation.
