25-Year-Old De Aujalae Evans Arrested, Trooper Dead after DUI Accident near Sycamore School Road

FORT WORTH, TX (August 20, 2024) – Early Monday morning, a DUI crash on Interstate 35 claimed the life of Sergeant Billy Randolph.

Around 6:00 a.m., police officers responded to the southbound lanes of the freeway near Sycamore School Road on August 12th.

Reports indicate that a tractor-trailer struck a guardrail around 2:40 a.m., in the southbound lanes. The collision caused the truck to catch fire and spill fuel onto the road.

A few hours later, 25-year-old De Aujalae Evans was driving a 202 Nissan Versa and sped through the crash scene. There, she struck 56-year-old Randolph, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.

Paramedics arrived and quickly transported the Sergeant to John Peter Smith Hospital where he later passed away.

In addition, Evans kept driving until about a quarter-mile away where she attempted to flee on foot. However, authorities were able to locate and arrest her for intoxication manslaughter causing the death of a peace officer or firefighter.

The Fort Worth PD shared their grief with the press, adding that Sergeant Randolph served for over 30 years. He will be deeply missed by his community.

At this time, troopers have not added any additional information, and further investigation is ongoing.
