31-Year-Old Oakland Man Pronounced Dead after Pickup-Truck Collision near Ally Gold Way

SHINGLETOWN, CA (August 20, 2024) – Saturday evening, a 2-vehicle crash on Highway 44 claimed the life of Alexander Miller Zagarino. 

Dispatchers received calls around 7:45 p.m., just west of Ally Gold Way.

California Highway Patrol officers say a westbound Nissan Frontier veered over the double yellow lines for reasons unknown. Consequently, the Frontier collided with a GMC Sierra traveling in the opposite direction. 

Emergency personnel declared the Frontier driver dead at the scene. He was later identified as 31-year-old Alexander Miller Zagarino, of Oakland. 

Meanwhile, paramedics transported the three occupants of the GMC to Mercy Medical Center for treatment of minor to moderate injuries.

Authorities later identified the two occupants of the GMC to be 43-year-old Thomas Stewart and 38-year-old Jennifer Stewart. Police said the couple had a third passenger who remained unidentified.
