Female Pedestrian Fatally Struck in Hit-and-Run Crash near Imperial Beach Boulevard

IMPERIAL BEACH, CA (August 19, 2024) – Late Wednesday night, Eric Cox was arrested after a fatal pedestrian crash on Connecticut Street.

Dispatchers received calls shortly before 11:00 p.m., at the 1100 block of Connecticut Street near Imperial Beach Boulevard.

Investigators say the driver of a red Chevrolet Camaro struck the female pedestrian and immediately fled the scene. 

Despite life-saving efforts, paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released her name or place of residency.  

Following the collision, a sheriff’s ASTREA helicopter helped to locate the Camaro with a black racing pinstripe leaving the area. 

Eventually, police managed to arrest the Camaro driver, identified as 62-year-old Eric Cox. Police booked Cox into San Diego Central Jail for suspected felony hit-and-run, vehicular manslaughter, and DUI.
