Michael Hutchinson Killed in DUI Bicycle Collision on Cave Creek Road [Phoenix, AZ]
37-Year-Old Bicyclist Killed in Speeding DUI Crash near Dynamite Boulevard
PHOENIX, AZ (August 15, 2024) – Late Monday night, Michael Hutchinson was fatally struck in DUI bicycle collision on Cave Creek Road.
The incident happened around 10:30 p.m., Dynamite Boulevard.
Phoenix Police Officers say the 18-year-old driver of a GMC Terrain SUV was heading south on Cave Creek Road at a high rate of speed. The teen then looked at the radio and failed to maintain focus on the road.
As a result, the GMC struck Hutchinson who was riding a bicycle just north of Dynamite Boulevard. Upon impact, the driver stopped and contacted authorities.
Despite life-saving efforts, first responders pronounced 37-year-old Hutchinson dead at the scene.
Investigators say the front wind-shield of the GMC had visible damage.
Following preliminary duties, officers determined that the driver was impaired. Crews reported that charges will be finalized once toxicology reports are completed.
At this time, an active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway.
