Male Cyclist Killed in Sedan vs Bicycle Collision near South Tulare Street

BAKERSFIELD, CA (August 14, 2024) – Late Sunday night, one man was fatally struck in a bicycle crash on East California Avenue.

Dispatchers received calls around 10:00 p.m., near South Tulare Street. First responders arrived to the scene shortly after. 

Following preliminary duties, authorities determined that a male cyclist traveling east on the road veered directly into the path of a westbound Honda sedan. As a result, the two collided at the intersection.

Despite life-saving efforts, paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released his name or place of residency.

Police officers also said the driver of the Honda remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. 

Emergency personnel closed off the roadway for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties.

The identity of the deceased bicyclist is currently being withheld by the coroner’s office.
