81-Year-Old Cyclist Fatally Struck in Hit-and-Run Accident near Grandview Road

PHOENIX, AZ (August 6, 2024) – Early Sunday, Eduardo Ramirez Jimenez died and Alberto Chilel Santos was arrested after a hit-and-run crash.

Around 6:00 a.m., first responders arrived to the intersection of 28th Place and Grandview Road on July 28th.

Investigators say 27-year-old Santos was driving a Chevrolet Colorado east and veered off the road and onto a sidewalk. There, Santos struck Jimenez was standing next to his bicycle.

Dispatchers located 81-year-old Jimenez lying unconscious on the roadway with serious injuries. Due to the extent of his condition, medics eventually pronounced him dead at the scene.

Upon impact, Santos fled the scene without rendering aid or contacting police. During preliminary duties, authorities located Santos in a nearby apartment complex.

Officers say Santos admitted to drinking prior to the collision. As a result, police booked him into the Maricopa County Jail with charges of manslaughter and leaving the scene of a collision.
