Angela Andrews Killed in Stop-Sign Crash on Highway 285 [Dexter, NM]
18-Year-Old Passenger Pronounced Dead after Stop-Sign Collision near East Darby Road
DEXTER, NM (August 5, 2024) – Early Sunday evening, Angela Andrews was killed in a stop-sign crash on Highway 285.
Authorities responded to the scene around 6:45 p.m., near East Darby Road on July 21st.
New Mexico State Police say a vehicle driven by a 16-year-old girl with 18-year-old Andrews as a passenger, was stopped at a stop-sign on the eastbound lanes of Darby Road.
The teen driver then entered the intersection and collided with a northbound vehicle. The impact trapped both teenagers inside their vehicle.
Emergency responders extracted both occupants and airlifted them to El Paso Hospital. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, Andrews later passed away.
In addition, the three occupants of the other vehicle, including a 5-year-old child, were taken to a local hospital.
Following preliminary duties, police stated that alcohol was ruled out as a factor, and further investigation remains ongoing.
