One Pronounced Dead after Multi-Vehicle Big-Rig Accident near Mission Boulevard

FREMONT, CA (July 23, 2024) – Thursday morning, a five-vehicle collision on Interstate 680 left one person dead and two others hospitalized. 

Around 7:05 a.m., police officers responded to the southbound lanes of the freeway just north of the Mission Boulevard exit.

Based on the initial investigation, a big-rig hauling tens of thousands of pounds of refrigerated meat failed to stop on time. As a result, the truck rear-ended a Toyota Venza traveling in the same direction.

Afterward, the big-rig struck three other vehicles before going down an embankment off the right-hand shoulder of Interstate 680. 

Responding emergency personnel declared the Toyota driver dead at the scene. Although, authorities have not yet released their identity.

Meanwhile, paramedics transported two others to a nearby hospital for further treatment of minor injuries. 

Fremont Officials closed multiple southbound lanes of the freeway as crews investigated the fatal five-vehicle crash. Once available, more details will be provided about the fatal collision on Interstate 680.
