Four People Pronounced Dead after Suspected DUI Crash near Kearny Mesa
SAN DIEGO, CA (July 22, 2024) – Early Friday morning, a multi-vehicle DUI accident on State Route 163 took the lives of four people.
California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene around 1:20 a.m., on the southbound lanes of the freeway just north of Interstate 805.
Based on the initial investigation, two Toyota Prius’ and a Toyota Tacoma pickup-truck collided in the southbound lanes.
Medical personnel arrived and pronounced two individuals dead at the scene. Meanwhile, another victim succumbed to their injuries after being transported to a local hospital.
Three of the four victims were described as male, ages 26, 25, and 27. Authorities are working to identify the fourth victim.
Police officers arrested the driver of the Tacoma and the other Prius, ages 32 and 25, for suspected DUI.
At this time, San Diego Officials continue to investigate the fatal State Route 163 multi-vehicle crash. Once available, further details will be provided.
