22-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Pedestrian Collision near Mission Street

SANTA CRUZ, CA (July 11, 2024) – Early Wednesday morning, a DUI pedestrian crash on Laurel Street took the life of one man. 

Police officers responded to the scene around 3:30 a.m., in the area of Laurel and Mission Street. 

Upon arrival, officers learned that a southbound vehicle on Mission hit the pedestrian in the roadway. 

Medical personnel transported the victim to a trauma center in San Jose where he later succumbed to his injuries. Authorities only described the deceased pedestrian as a 22-year-old. 

During preliminary duties, the involved driver involved stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Police eventually arrested the driver for suspicion of driving under the influence. 

At this time, an active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway. The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office will provide more information regarding the fatal Laurel Street DUI crash once available.
