Pedestrian Killed, Suspect Arrested after Deadly DUI Collision near Oak Street
BAKERSFIELD, CA (July 10, 2024) – Thursday evening, William Largent was arrested after a fatal pedestrian crash on 24th Street.
Authorities responded to the scene around 8:30 p.m., near Oak Street on July 4th.
Investigators say 33-year-old Largent was driving north and made a turn onto eastbound 24th Street. There, the driver struck a pedestrian who was standing along the center divider.
Upon impact, Largent continued driving west and struck four other vehicles.
Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced the involved pedestrian deceased. Although, police have not yet released their identity.
In addition, paramedics transported another driver to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
Police later arrested Largent and charged him with suspicion gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury.
Emergency crews closed off the surrounding area for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties. Further investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information about the crash can contact the BPD at 661-327-7111.
