22-Year-Old Driver Pronounced Dead Head-on Collision near Highway 33

MERCED COUNTY, CA (July 10, 2024) – Thursday afternoon, one man was fatally struck in a head-on crash on Canal School Road.

Dispatchers received calls around 4:30 p.m., just north of Highway 33 on July 4th.

Officers say the 22-year-old male driver of a Nissan was heading south and veered into the oncoming lanes. As a result, the Nissan collided head-on with a Chevrolet.

Responding personnel says the Nissan driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time. Despite life-saving efforts, medics pronounced the Nissan driver dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, paramedics transported the 22-year-old female passenger of the Nissan to a hospital for further treatment. Crews also took a 2-year-old child from the Chevy to Valley Children’s Hospital.

Alcohol or drugs did not play a role in the collision, and further investigation is still ongoing.
