73-Year-Old SUV Driver Killed in Wrong-Way Accident near Matador

MOTLEY COUNTY, TX (July 9, 2024) – Thursday, Lino Garcia died and Margarita Garcia and Roger Mason were hurt in a collision on US Highway 62.

The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m., on the westbound lanes of the freeway near Matador on June 20th.

Investigators say Mason was driving a vehicle when he veered into the oncoming lanes and collided head-on with an SUV, driven by Lino. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced 73-year-old Lino dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, paramedics transported Lino’s passenger, 72-year-old Margarita to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. In addition, crews took Roger to UMC with non life-threatening injuries.

At this time, an active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway. Once available, more details will be provided.
