74-Year-Old Female Passenger Dies in Single-Car Accident near Diamond Drive 

LAKE ELSINORE, CA (July 3, 2024) – Sunday, a rollover crash on Interstate 15 killed Maria Martinez Lomeli and left two others hospitalized.

The fatal incident occurred around 1:50 p.m., along the southbound lanes of the freeway, just south of Diamond Drive. 

Investigators say the 71-year-old male driver of a 2004 Kia Sorrento lost control and went into the center median for reasons unknown. The vehicle then overturned and ejected the rear passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt. 

Responding medical personnel transported the rear passenger to Inland Valley Hospital in Wildomar where she died from her injuries. Officials later identified the deceased woman as 74-year-old Lomeli, of Compton. 

Reports said the 71-year-old driver and a 66-year-old female front-seat passenger from the same vehicle were hospitalized for major injuries. The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the fatal solo-vehicle crash.
